ITV4 is definitely broadcasting 24/7 on Freeview starting from 6th February. All customers will have to rescan their box in order to receive the changes. CITV will still be available on Freeview at the same hours, but is moving multiplexes and using the slot that ABC1 used to broadcast.
The green light has been given to the BBC to launch a new Gaelic channel. Unfortunately though, the channel will not join the Freeview line-up due to high costs.
S4C the Welsh-language channel is asking for extra space on Freeview, to broadcast their channel nationwide. They are hoping after the switch over, everyone in the UK can receive the channel. There are also plans of the network launching a children's channel, but is less likely to join Freeview if they are launching S4C nationwide.
ITV4 is suppose to be broadcasting 24/7 from February 6th. According to the Radio Times the channel will run 24 hours, but it is unknown if these changes will happen on Freeview as ITV4 timeshares will CITV. However ITV does have a spare stream currently used by ITV2+1 which could be used to broadcast the channel 24/7.
UKTV has confirmed that, their channel will begin broadcasting programming in widescreen. It will begin on the 31st January and their website has stated they will not stretch or crop programming in 4:3 format, to keep the viewers happy.
Currys and PC World has agreed they will no longer sell analogue televisions. As soon as there existing analogue stock runs out they will know longer sell analogue TV or DVD recorders that don't have digital turner.
Top Up TV has launched a new box with 250 GB hard drive. The new box allows you even more programming to be stored, using the PVR function, but also to receive the programming from Top Up TV's service. The box costs around £130 and subscribing to the service is an extra cost.
Dave, the channel owned by UKTV, are testing selected channel in wide-screen. These tests are for preparation for January 31st when the channel will fully broadcast in 16:9 (wide-screen).
Reports from the Digital Switch Over suggest that it was a success. A new survey suggest that new enough every household had at least one digital service and 95% of 'second sets' were digitally mid-December. It also states that 60% was in fact Freeview.
From March you will begin to see some of Channel 4's content on The Hits. Shows will include programming such as interviews, live shows and videos and will be broadcast every Sunday in a new banner called 4Music Sundays. These changes are due to Channel 4 50% they have in the channel.
ABC has signed a contract with BT Vision to give customers access to their content. The content will include shows such as Lost, Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty and is available to subscribe or pay per view. Oneword, the radio station, looks as if the station will cease broadcasting. The station’s schedule has been suspended, the website has closed down, the dismissal of six staff and they are currently playing a selection of programming on a loop. This seems the end of the station and there isn’t much left of them anymore.
