topuptv began as a add-on service where you could add channels to your existing freeview service. in 2006 though they started to struggle, they were loosing money and going bankrupt. they turned things around and turn the existing service to a ondemand service where you can download programming.
31/03/2004 - topuptv launches as a add on service, broadcasting 10 channels over other side of page. all of this cost £7.99 a month. television x was also available at a additional cost.
06/04/2995 - xtraview launched as a taster channel offering samples from the topuptv service for £1 a day
27/05/2005 - e4 left the service and joined freeview as a free-to-air channel to hopefully boost ratings
31/05/2005 - british eurosport launched on topuptv as a replacement for the e4 which left the service on the 27th.
30/07/2005 - setanta sports lauched on freeview as a additional service where it would broadcast PPV live scottish premierleague football.
29/08/2005 - xtraview cease broadcasting and was believed it would return. it had been on the epg many weeks after it cease broadcasting but eventually left the epg.
22/10/2005 - topuptv pay as you go became available in argos and many tesco stores.
18/11/2005 - five buys a stake in topuptv hoping it will be able to use capacity for five's new channels
05/06/2006 - five announce it will launch two new channels using capacity from topuptv, to continue providing a service it will launch a ONdemand service, topuptv anytime
18/09/2006 - topuptv will launch a movie service with its upcoming ondemand service, topuptv anytime, called picture box
01/11/2006 - topuptv's new ondemand service, topuptv anytime, launches. (channels other side of page)
01/03/2007 - setanta sports launch as a additional channel
